Narratives and Framing: The Keys to Connecting
Every story operates under a certain framework – the philosophy that certain elements of a story are emphasized to influence a particular narrative. Participants in this session will learn how to spot the false narratives from the Left and utilize their tactics for successful storytelling. Students will come away from the workshop understanding how to frame key issues and use strategic media advocacy tactics to redefine gripping narratives.
The Leadership Toolbox
This session will teach participants how to manage and rally volunteers for their cause. Activists will learn the fundamentals of management, the value of being a servant leader, and the keys for inspiration. Participants will also learn how to identify a volunteer’s talents and how to use it elevate their team. Students will understand hierarchical structures and bureaucracies fail to succeed in the world of grassroots organizing and understand why the snowflake management model — a more balanced power structure — helps teammates succeed and feel valued.
Building Coalitions and Communities
Building communities building and developing real relationships are the key for experiencing successful organizing. This session will teach participants how to identify strong, like-minded activists and the biggest threats to the community’s success. Activists will come away from this class with the skill set needed to bring together volunteers and form strong teams.
Direct Action: Explaining the Why
Direct action occurs when a group takes an action, such as a protest, that directly reveals a problem, or a possible solution, to a societal issue. Students will briefly review the goals of direct action campaigns and dissect examples of successful campaigns. Students will better understand the value of direct action tactics used by the Left.
